On August 3, Kane was taken back to the hospital to undergo her second open heart surgery the following week, but because she was ill, the surgery date was moved sooner. The surgery went well, and family members were able to meet Erin through a window. Erin was in surgery for nearly eight hours. She recalls it being the loneliest walk and longest day.
Sadly, though, when Erin had to undergo her first open heart surgery, Kane had to walk their baby girl down for surgery alone. Thankfully, Kane says, her husband was by her side no matter what. Not only were the couple worried about their baby girl’s heart, but the pandemic was forcing hospital restrictions around the world to be implemented. On March 29, Erin made her entrance into the world. The couple was told it was hypoplastic left heart syndrome – something they had never even heard of. Two weeks later, they were told Erin’s heart did not function well, and the aortic arch was narrowing. But, despite the challenges she has faced along the way since her arrival into the world, she continues to go from “strength to strength.”Īt a 20-week ultrasound appointment, mom Clare Kane and dad Dave Rogan were told that something was wrong with their baby girl they would later name Erin.
